Bed Time Tales

Installation and soundscape - March 2013

Devised, recorded and designed by Sofie Layton

Sited in the private bedchamber of King William III the four-poster bed was created by the local community around Hampton Court Palace and inspired by their stories of the most unusual beds they had ever slept in.

The participants beautiful, bizarre and touching stories were turned into a soundscape. They also became the inspiration for some of the embroidered illustrations in the pages of books within the installation.

Group members embossed copper leaves for the four-poster beds finials and book covers. The bed pelmets and bolster were screen-printed and then embroidered and embellished by different community groups.
